Accra, March 13, 2012: A joint radio programme by the African University College of Communications (AUCC) and Simmons College in Boston, U.S.A. has won the "Most Innovative Programming in College Radio" award. The award was announced at the just ended 72nd Annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting Radio & Webcasting Conference held in New York, U.S.A.

This award which is a result of collaboration between Simmons College, Boston, USA, and AUCC in Accra, Ghana, involved the use of new media technology with students from both universities meeting once every week and airing their meetings through the radio studios of Simmons University using Skype conferencing.

This programme which has run for a year, is ongoing with the coordinator of the programme from the AUCC wing, Mr. Ogochukwu Nweke, expressing optimism that greater heights are going to be attained not just for the initiative, but also in relation to AUCC fulfilling its promise to Africa by providing opportunities for advanced learning and practical application to students of the University.

The coordinator of the programme from Simmons College, Mr. Leonard Mailloux was particularly pleased with the sharp wittedness exhibited by the AUCC students, who demonstrated in-depth knowledge on local and international contemporary issues.

Some of the subjects discussed on the programme included media and governance, gender mainstreaming in journalism and conflict of cultures. Other subjects were development and politics and the role of America in Africa and the Middle East.
